Fountains combat blue-green algae in the ‘Vossemvijver’ pond in Tervuren Park

Agentschap Natuur & Bos of the Flemish government installed two fountains in the ‘Vossemvijver’ pond in Tervuren Park. A third fountain will soon follow in the adjacent ‘Molenvijver’ pond. The fountains provide extra oxygen in this public fishing water which helps to combat the formation of blue-green algae. This blue-green bacterium forms an oily layer on the water in warm weather and poses health risks for people and animals.

But the fountains are also a new eye-catcher in Tervuren Park, which will be further developed as a gateway to the Sonian Forest thanks to the ‘Masterplan voor de Voervallei’.
